The Connecticut Holodomor Awareness Committee is currently beginning to work on the following two projects simultaneously:
Preparing a Presentation for the Northeast Regional Conference on Social Studies (April 2012) 80th Commemoration of the Holodomor
The Northeast Regional Conference on Social Studies is a prestigious conference held annually for social studies teachers. The 2012 conference will be held in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Our proposal to present a Workshop on a Unit of Study about the Holodomor in a Social Studies context has been accepted. This is a wonderful opportunity to provide teachers with current materials and methods for educating students about this little known genocide.
In preparation for this project we are organizing subcommittees to:
Review the national social studies standards
Review existing Holodomor curriculums
Develop a Unit of Study on the Holodomor-
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation and supplementary materials for the New England Regional Conference
The 80th Anniversary of the Holodomor will be upcoming 2013. The committee has discussed several possibilities for this commemoration amongst which are:
Organizing symposiums
Planning an Interdenominational memorial service involving other genocide afflicted groups
Planning a Memorial Concert
We are currently exploring and discussing various options that will commemorate as well as educate the community at large about this horrific tragedy.
