The Holodomor: Famine and Fiction
Jeremy Richard Library – Stamford Campus
One University Place
Stamford, CT.
Censorship, politics, ideology and egos drove press coverage of the Holodomor, the 1932-1933 famine that ravaged Ukraine and the Kuban region of the USSR, claiming 6-10 million lives.
This exhibit summarizes the historical events surrounding the Holodomor and explores the factors that affected reporting of the famine: the political climate and priorities of the day, the censorship and denial by Moscow, and the ideological persuasions and personal ambitions of the reporters.
